- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2025I purchased this as a gift for the little niece of a friend of mine who is blind so she could better understand her how her aunt gets around. We were all initially annoyed she came with high heels and frilly clothing, but the textures make it so a visually impaired person can tell what she’s wearing and how pretty she looks. Her hands are made to hold her cane. She’s great and everyone loved seeing her.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024Purchased for my nieces birthday who is partially sighted and one for my self it was cute, good quality, a great value for my money? Came with accessories - a cane, and was fun for my niece. The only issue l had was that she didn’t come in Afro American , which is usually my preferred. It would have been nice if she was black.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2025I got this Barbie for a young girl who's older sister is blind. She really liked the clothes on this doll and thought she was very pretty, but she had a hard time getting the doll to hold the cane once we took the packaging off. Within an hour she was done with the cane, but still loved the Barbie. The doll's eyes do resemble big sister's, so that part is accurate but still in a flattering way. I'm so happy this doll exists, but there is a little room for improvement with the accessories. Luckily this Barbie has enough doll friends I'm sure she can take someone's arm if her cane is MIA.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2024I teach students who are blind and visually impaired, and we’ve been waiting for this for years. I’ve purchased many of them to give to my students, their siblings, etc. The cane is well-made, the only suggestion I would have is a better way to attach it to the hand or wrist. It tends to fall off. Otherwise I love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2024My visually impaired sister loved this Barbie when I gave it to her for her birthday.
As usual, Mattel has paid close attention to detail. Barbie's cane has the "marshmallow" type tip that a lot of modern canes have, and the red section at the bottom apparently denotes that Barbie is visually impaired rather than fully blind. The cane has a little loop that fits easily over Barbie's hand.
She comes with tiny light-blocking glasses that are resting on top of her head, but can also fit on Barbie's face. She has long, gorgeous brown hair and a typical pink and purple Barbie outfit. Her eyes are looking slightly up rather than directly forward.
If you're giving this to a child, have scissors or snippers ready to cut the MANY bands and clips that hold Barbie in her box. These would be difficult for any kid, but especially so for a visually impaired child.
I've heard some people say that Mattel doesn't need to keep making dolls of so many types, that it's going too far. But I think it's wonderful that they're making it so that almost any child can find a Barbie that looks and lives like them or like someone they love.
This Barbie, the larger-figured Barbie, the ones (multiple!) in wheelchairs, the ones of various races-- these Barbies aren't for the people who don't want them to exist. If the look on my adult sister's face is anything to go by, a child with visual impairments, or who has a friend or family member with visual impairments, would adore this doll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bonita

5.0 out of 5 stars Empowering an entire community
I recently bought this Barbie, made in partnership with the American Foundation for the Blind, for my young niece to introduce her to my own experience as someone who is visually impaired. This Barbie is truly empowering, featuring braille on the packaging, a white cane, and removable sunglasses, all of which help normalize disability in a fun and approachable way. It’s amazing to see such thoughtful representation in a product that reaches so many kids, promoting inclusivity and showing that everyone deserves to see themselves in the toys they play with. This Barbie is a wonderful step forward for representation and awareness, and I hope it sparks important conversations about inclusion and accessibility.
