Bessie Coleman continues Barbie's Inspiring Women collection

Known for her daring adventures as a stunt pilot, Bessie Coleman broke new ground in aviation. She also inspired generations of black, Native American and female pilots.

The Inspiring Women series pays tribute to the courageous women who have paved the way for generations of girls to dream bigger than ever. Despite racial and gender discrimination, Bessie Coleman became the first black and Native American female pilot. She also became the first black person to receive an international pilot's license. Dressed in a traditional olive green aviator outfit, including a cap emblazoned with the initials 'BC', this collectible Barbie doll honors the high-flying icon.

"It was wonderful to learn more about such a brave, remarkable woman who was ahead of her time," says packaging designer Priscilla Bara. "I think it all came together beautifully!"
