"The shawl is an important feature of this doll," says Joyce. "All paintings of celestial beings show a shawl to represent the feeling of flight and movement."
Barbie celebrates the holiday's rich cultural roots with a festive creation inspired by classic Hanfu robes. The flowing silhouette of the dress is a symbol of the flight of celestial beings. It contains traditional Chinese engravings influenced by the woodcut art of the Tang Dynasty. The shades of the dress are taken from the color palette of the ancient Dunhuang rock paintings. Her look is completed with long dark locks, a pearl hair accessory and pearl dangle earrings.
